For the love of Home Ownership

Easy to say and yes I am happy, actually I am ecstatic that I finally entered the home owner elite. Well it seems that way at the moment even though I know we are no more elite than anyone else. In actual fact nothing has really changed. I have to pay money to someone else every month for the privileged of staying in a house. I do not like where I am going with this. I love my new house, all mine now I need to make it my own. The mortgage and insurance are taken care of and I have my new carpets arriving next week so all is well.

Incorporate Mountains Into Your Home Decor

By Paula Henderson

Summer is the time of warmth and sunshine. The time to throw open your doors and windows and enjoy the warm, sweet smelling air wafting in. Not all of us can afford the luxury of a summer retreat high up in the mountains or down by the lake, but take heart, you can get that summery, fresh feeling right at your doorstep with some simple alterations to your home.

You can focus on the summer mood and it doesn't take long to get there. With a little planning you can have a wonderful time in your home this summer. Invite the mountains into your home.

Colors are the vital link that can change the look and feel of a room in a jiffy. Pastel colors are the way to go for summers, repaint any drab wall in a nice lemon yellow, apple green or mint for instantly reviving the lost charm. If a complete repainting is not a possibility, just painting the borders of a wall in white can give a room a bright and cheery look. A dark hallway or passage which does not receive much light can be redeemed by hanging a series of nice floral or botanical pictures on the walls.

If you still have heavy drapes or blinds in your window it's time to take them down and replace them with sheer curtains. Make sure that you ditch anything that is dark in color or solid print. These are winter colors and you want the opposite. You can even change the cushion covers to a floral print with a light colored background.

Dark and heavy wall to wall carpeting might not be that easy to replace, but you could easily liven it up with some bright and cheery area rugs. Rugs with floral motifs can give your room a very welcoming look in the summers. Place some pastel rugs under those heavy wood dining and side tables, these can instantly divert your attention from the rather drab dark wood finish to the brightness underneath. You can change the complete look of your room by throwing some new area rugs at suitable places. You can brighten up any dark and gloomy walls by hanging a big, bright rug on it. These are great attention getters and can be used effectively to divert attention from the things that don't really work.

If you have a dark wood dining room table set it on top of a bright round area rug. An area rug can completely alter the way the room looks. You can even hang an area rug on the walls for more decoration. This is a real conversation piece for most. Add bright colored flowers to your decor. Take the logs out of the fireplace and add a fountain with a constant trickle sound instead. You can add fresh flowers everywhere you want the new look.
