For the love of Home Ownership

Easy to say and yes I am happy, actually I am ecstatic that I finally entered the home owner elite. Well it seems that way at the moment even though I know we are no more elite than anyone else. In actual fact nothing has really changed. I have to pay money to someone else every month for the privileged of staying in a house. I do not like where I am going with this. I love my new house, all mine now I need to make it my own. The mortgage and insurance are taken care of and I have my new carpets arriving next week so all is well.

How To Decorate A Spacious California Home

By Riley Benson

California homes are recognized for their grand space. The high ceilings and grand staircase commonly associated with classic elegance are marks of a California home. Not to mention the high-class inclusion of big bedrooms, walk-in closets, too good to be true bathrooms and Jacuzzis.

If you have acquired a home this big, then it is a great challenge to decorate it appropriately. You don't have to fill the rooms with furniture; in fact the key to creating an aesthetic impact is how your furniture is arranged within the available space. One excellent piece of advice here is the old saying 'less is more'.

Let's take the kitchen: Big kitchens have obviously more storage, which means more cabinets, drawers, and such. This is actually good news as you don't have to worry about clutter. You have ample storage to keep your kitchen stuff organized. Built-in microwaves and refrigerators also help in making the kitchen space orderly.

The living room furniture should be kept away from walls, yet within the boundary created by an area rug which is suitably sized for the room. This arrangement results in a feeling of intimacy and spaciousness at the same time. If your room has bay windows, the perfect style of rug is one with deep pile and a bold geometric pattern. To facilitate guests' entertainment and conversation, place a large coffee table in the center and arrange chairs and couches around it.

Don't forget your bathrooms, especially the one that guests use. It should not only be clean but stocked well with bathroom essentials. To make it nicely decorated won't hurt either.

Decorating the dining room with an area rug as a secondary piece to the dining table set is enough to give this room the atmosphere you want to have. Depending on the color and design of the area rug, a dining room can be a formal eating space or a laidback place for sharing meals with family and friends.

Bedrooms can also be adorned with area rugs. Personalities sure differ but with the assortment of area rugs, any character trait can be accommodated. Children's bedroom can be more animated with children rugs designed with cartoon characters, alphabets, numbers, animals, nature, cars and other children-related themes.

Modern Californian homes often have vaulted, high ceilings in the foyer or atrium, and it can be a problem to accent these spaces tastefully. If you place a big oriental design area rug in the foyer, with some tall indoor plants such as palms, and perhaps some trailing vines, this may be the only decoration you need to place in your home's entrance in order to make it welcoming.
